Our Penteconter project is inspired by the Design of the Ancient Penteconter
(Sail boat of the 7th & 5th Century BC. with 50 rowers, 25 on Portside and 25 on Starboard side)
Based on it, the project consists in building and exploiting a New Penteconter with Light and Eco-friendly materials
The exploitation plans of the New Penteconter project ambition to use this ship as a great Ambassador of History, Present and Future as well as of Eco-Friendly Technologies and of Environmental Awareness. The New Penteconter exploitation plans provide new business models for the valorization of the Cultural and Historical Heritage and the traditions of Mediterranean countries. The exploitation of the New Penteconter includes the development of new types of ships for yachting and cruising and innovative uses of such ships for business promotions, exhibitions and events.
The exploitation of the New Penteconter project, its name, and its results, is currently pursued by a French consultancy, CEDECS, who shares their ownership with its inventor, Alexis Daras.
The rights of exploitation of this e-Penteconter project are handled by the Electric Boats Association of Greece, who is promoting actively the construction in Greece of a version of the New Penteconter which will put the emphasis on making this ship a demonstrator of Sustainable Technologies for Naval purposes.
It is currently assessed for a possible support by the Blue Growth initiative of EU.
The New Penteconter project has been conceived by an international team composed of a French sailor and cruise industry expert, Alexis Daras, an Italian Naval Engineer, Francesco Belvisi and a Greek expert in innovation and start-ups’ support, Athanase Contargyris, with the assistance of Aegean University in Syros, of the incubator ARCA in Palermo and interactions with a Greek electrical engineering, Andreas Apostolopoulos, within SMILIES project of MED program as the Flagship pilot of SMILIES. It has been recognized as a best practice to illustrate innovation potential in the Mediterranean countries of the EU by Creative MED project, which includes it in its White Paper for an Innovation Model for Mediterranean Regions.
